RAISED THROUGH COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING

Community fundraising is a powerful force behind better care at the QEII — driven by people who often turn personal experiences into meaningful action.

From galas and hockey tournaments to partnerships with major sports teams, our passionate supporters are rallying around causes that matter most to them — helping fund the tools and technology patients rely on every day.

The Orchid Women’s Health Initiative (OWHI) is a powerful example of this impact in action — a passionate collective of women leading change in women’s health. Inspired in honour of their late friend, Deanne Reeve, this community-driven movement is challenging the status quo and expanding access to leading-edge care.

Through their support, the OWHI is helping fuel innovations like the da Vinci Xi surgical robot — nearly doubling access to robotassisted surgery for gynecologic cancers — and technologies like the CO2 laser, enabling earlier, more precise treatment of pre-cancerous conditions. Together, these efforts are changing what’s possible for women across our region.

WHAT DONORS WILL MAKE POSSIBLE:

$1,942,544 raised through the 2025 Orchid Gala — including a $1-million gift from Tony and Julie Metlege — to advance women’s health at the QEII.

Unlocking earlier diagnosis and advanced treatments for gynecologic cancers at the QEII, with a new multiyear partnership between the Orchid Women’s Health Initiative and QEII Foundation.

In 2025–2026, 727 gifts directed towards community fundraisers — supporting everything from financial assistance for patients to expanded treatment options for thyroid cancer.

We’re incredibly proud to stand alongside the QEII Foundation to help transform women’s gyne oncology for the women of Nova Scotia. Together, we’re expanding access to more precise treatments and better outcomes — so more women can be diagnosed sooner, start treatment faster and move forward with hope.
