UNVEILING THE STEWART E. ALLEN HYBRID OR

HYBRID OR ATLANTIC CANADA’S FIRST HYBRID OPERATING ROOM TRANSFORMING SURGICAL CARE

$4 MILLION

raised for the hybrid OR

More than 200 donors came together to fund $4 million-worth of best-in-class technology within the QEII’s new Stewart E. Allen Hybrid OR. One of the most technologically advanced operating suites available today, it allows QEII surgical teams to perform diagnostic imaging, minimally-invasive procedures, and complex, open surgeries all in the same room, at the same time. By eliminating the physical divide between the OR and real-time imaging, patients will no longer need to be transferred to different floors for their imaging needs.

Thanks to Stewart and the other generous donors, our patients will now have access to this life-saving technology and innovation. Rapid access to care can mean the matter of life or death…and that’s priceless.

Atlantic Canada’s first hybrid OR is named in honour of Stewart E. Allen, who made a $1-million donation to the game-changing project. Stewart, pictured below with daughters Jacki (left) and Jessi (right), is a self-made business leader and visionary philanthropist who began his career in Truro, N.S. Medicine and the East Coast have long held a place in his heart — ultimately inspiring his support.

The Stewart E. Allen Hybrid OR will enable more minimally-invasive procedures, smaller incisions, less stress on the heart, shorter recovery times for patients, and help the QEII recruit and retain the best and brightest surgeons.
