TO TRANSFORM CANCER CARE AT THE QEII

On October 18, 2025, more than 850 cyclists came together to raise funds for cancer care at the QEII through the 11th annual BMO Ride for Cancer. Marcy Weston was among them.

Two years ago, Marcy’s life changed when she discovered the lump in her breast was stage two invasive ductal carcinoma. Genomic testing — like the genetic sequencing technology fully funded by BMO Ride for Cancer and QEII Foundation donors in 2021 — later helped determine chemotherapy would be of little benefit to Marcy, allowing her to opt for a different cancer treatment.

When Marcy heard of BMO Ride for Cancer she felt compelled to take part as now it was personal. She will be riding in this year’s BMO Ride for Cancer – The Grand Finale on October 3, 2026.

WHAT DONORS WILL MAKE POSSIBLE:

Helping fund comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) tools for the QEII to deliver some of the country’s most leading-edge cancer care available.

Matching gifts from the Christina and Hedley G. Ivany Charitable Foundation and Universal Realty Group inspired hundreds of people to give to QEII cancer care.

Helping raise more than $15 million net for local cancer care at the QEII, through BMO Ride for Cancer in eleven years.

Hearing the words ‘you have cancer’ was awful. For me, the hardest part was waiting… It can feel like these incredible advances in cancer care only happen in major centres. But they’re happening here in Halifax at the QEII. That’s powerful.
