TO ENHANCE THE ABBIE J. LANE GYM

Donors, alongside the Halifax Thunderbirds, rallied to transform and modernize the QEII’s Abbie J. Lane gymnasium; a critical and outdated space for patients accessing mental health treatment. Exercise and recreational activities are key to patients’ treatment and care — helping to reduce depression and anxiety and improve daily functioning.

As part of their 2024-2025 National Lacrosse League season, the Halifax Thunderbirds named the QEII Foundation their charity of choice, helping fund the Abbie J. Lane gym enhancement project. With 50/50 draws during every home game, a jersey raffle and more, the Halifax Thunderbirds inspired their fans to help them give back in a major way and shine a light on mental health services in Nova Scotia. Their support will help create a more functional, multi-purpose gymnasium with new group-focused equipment, games and safety features — providing patients with a more supportive environment for their recovery and wellness.

The Halifax Thunderbirds are honoured to help improve mental health services in Nova Scotia. As a team, we’re committed to supporting causes that have a direct and positive impact on our community: the renovation of the Abbie J. Lane gymnasium is a prime example.
