TO SUPPORT PATIENTS DURING THEIR CARE JOURNEY

A kind gesture can change a patient’s outlook during their healthcare journey. That’s why access to comfort and essential items matters as much as advanced medical technology.

Donor support makes this possible through patient grants like the QEII Patient Essentials and Comfort & Care programs, helping QEII care teams enhance the patient experience.

At 62, Judy Lewis graduated from the NSCC Paralegal Services Program and was excited to start her new career. But a colon cancer diagnosis changed everything.

Following emergency surgery at the QEII and anxiously awaiting her prognosis at a followup appointment with her surgeon, Dr. Mark Walsh, a nurse asked Judy about her well-being. Living on her own and without a family doctor or health plan, Judy shared she was stressed. Recognizing Judy’s situation, the nurse provided donor-funded grocery gift cards through the QEII Patient Essentials Fund. That kind gesture was a bright spot and helped Judy purchase nutritional food and supplements.

When faced with adversity, a kind-hearted gesture makes all the difference, helping you feel uplifted at a time of such uncertainty. I left that appointment feeling that my care team was looking out for my well-being. It warmed my heart.
