Perseverance, determination and hope run deep at the QEII’s Nova Scotia Rehabilitation and Arthritis Centre. Guided by dedicated and passionate clinicians, it’s where patients relearn and regain the skills needed for independence after a life-changing incident like a stroke, amputation or spinal cord injury.
Donor support over multiple years, including a $300,000 gift from the Windsor Foundation, is creating new treatment and assessment areas with specialized equipment and technology, enhancing a patient’s therapy experience, recovery and outcomes. These new resources empower patients to be more independent, self-direct their care and engaged in therapy.
One example is the Upper Extremity Performance Centre, equipped with virtual reality and interactive digital tools used for regaining hand, arm and shoulder movement.
The centre was supported by donors, including the QEII’s Leadership Giving Group, whose gifts were generously matched by the J & W Murphy Foundation for a total impact of $150,000, making this life-changing space a reality at the province’s most specialized rehabilitation centre.
